Solid Research Background
Mephisto Design Automation is a technology spin-off company from the
K.U.Leuven - MICAS
laboratories.
The MICAS lab uniquely combines world-wide top research positions
in both analog design and design methodologies and CAD.
MICAS was created and grown by Prof. Willy Sansen who led the
research lab for over 35 years.
Now being led by Prof. Georges Gielen (a board member of MDA),
the research group remains an interesting talent and knowledge pool
available to MDA. With the support of Prof. Willy Sansen, Prof. Georges
Gielen and Prof. Michiel Steyaert, an IP transfer of key analog
design automation technology was executed. This technology was
built up since 1999 in continuous collaboration with analog
design experts - both from the research lab and from industry through
(European) projects.
Before founding MDA as a privately held company in December 2005,
Kenneth Francken
and Martin Vogels
completed their Ph.D. research in the MICAS labs in September 2003.
Technology Commercialization
In 2003, the main technology came out of prototyping (after
more than 4 years) and the key product, M-Design, was ready for
commercialization.
Both Mr. Francken and Mr. Vogels received support (post-doc) from
IWT-Vlaanderen to commercialize their
research work.
Company Founding
With the support of SO Kwadraat
and Jan Decaluwe Mephisto Design Automation was founded
December 1, 2005.
The company was venture funded in January, 2006 and closed a second
round in spring 2008.
